I qualified in 1989 and have worked as a doctor in the NHS since 1991. In 2004 I was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, and Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Bristol.
I am the Lead Clinician and Speciality director of Fertility Services at the Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine (BCRM) at Southmead Hospital. BCRM is one of the largest Fertility Centres in the UK with consistently excellent outcomes within the top 10 in the UK.
As a clinical research fellow to the late Prof Michael Hull and later clinical lecturer in Reprodcutive Medicine at the Unversity of Bristol & St. Michael's Hospital, I gained expertise in assisted conception techniques and fertility treatment such as IVF & ICSI, and also became one of the few trained UK specialists in reproductive surgery.
research interests have lead to numerous international publications and
the attainment of a PhD. I am often invited to speak at meetings &
courses, and delighted with my contributions to patient care in both the
NHS and private sectors including the establishment of an IVF centre
(BCRM) at Southmead Hospital and an HFEA Licensed Fertility Unit at the
Spire Bristol Hospital.
I am an accredited laparoscopic surgeon and recognised for my skills in advanced key hole surgery procedures, in particular the treatment of women with Fertility problems, Fibroids, Ovarian cysts and Endometriosis. I also undertake hysteroscopic surgery.
At Southmead Hospital, we are proud to be one of the few accredited centres in the UK providing advanced training in laparoscopic surgery. I also provide specialist care in my NHS clinic for patients with recurrent miscarriages and reproductive endocrine problems.
I am a recognised trainer for gynaecological ultrasound scanning enabling several training doctors achieve competencies required for the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the British Fertility Society.
I am a member of the Royal Colledge of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG), Bristish Fertility Society (BFS), Bristish Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE), European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
I am an elected member of the BFS executive committee and chair the meetings and conferences sub-committee and previously served on the training committee, as well as the subspecialty training committee of the RCOG. I am a medical performance assessor for the General Medical Council (GMC) and the RCOG.
Interestingly, Tatler have listed me in their 2013 doctor guide as one of the top 10 fertility consultants in the UK.
